Certified sustainability with GreenSign

Sustainability has arrived in all areas of life and industries. For this reason, more and more companies are opting for sustainable certification. GreenSign certification is awarded by the GreenSign Institute in Berlin to create transparency regarding sustainability. It is a certification catalog, which was created according to international standards to determine the level of sustainability of a company.

In order to receive GreenSign certification, a business must first complete the comprehensive catalog of requirements. This contains more than 130 criteria, which are divided into ten core areas. The assessment program has a practical structure and is based on high standards such as EMAS, DIN ISO 14001, ISO 26000 and the SDGs. In addition to environmental sustainability, social, cultural and economic aspects are also covered. In addition to self-disclosure in a digital tool, it is mandatory to draw up an environmental program in which specific development goals are defined.

The company's information is first checked by the GreenSign experts. This is followed by an on-site audit, during which all data is put to the test. The GreenSign sustainability barometer, which every company receives after certification, transparently presents the performance of each company in the individual core areas.

Once certification has been completed, the company's sustainability performance is presented transparently, both overall and in the individual core areas, based on the degree of conformity. The degree of conformity ranges from a minimum conformity of 50% to a maximum of 100%. The GreenSign widget displays the degree of conformity directly and clearly. This can be seen on the certificate, which is issued for three years.

Additional sustainable processes must be introduced in the company in order to increase the level of conformity for re-certification. The list of criteria provides an ideal guideline for this, and after the individual audit, the certified company receives individual suggestions from the GreenSign Institute for possible measures to further develop the sustainability strategy.
